Affiliate Marketing: Keep the Pond Clean

The latest buzz amongst affiliates these days is the recent wrap up of the Affiliate Marketing summit 2008 West. I could not make it to the summit, but was quite into it and kept track of it from the very beginning.

Mr. Jason Calacanis who was the keynote speaker in summit provided valuable inputs to all the recent happenings in the affiliate marketing network globally. Amongst other discussions that Jason touched upon in his speech was the existence of the good and the bad affiliates. The good affiliates are those who go about the right way and the bad ones are obviously those who do not go about the right way.

What I liked about Jason’s speech in the affiliate marketing summit 2008, was that he was upfront in stating that to some extent the affiliate companies too are to be blamed for such situations. He pointed out that the companies themselves are allowing people to use affiliate network as a platform to mint money, which is a not acceptable.

I personally feel that the main reason for this corrupt upsurge in affiliate marketing is due to the fact that anyone and every one (and I mean it) is now acting as an affiliate. If affiliates too had to undergo a process before they could be certified to use their affiliate network, then such cases I believe could be curbed to a great extent.

This way we would only call upon qualified and genuine people to run their affiliate network and would also be able to keep the pond clean, what Jason was trying to hint at.
